HER EXPERIENCE
Desiree Michelle Scott is an actress, philanthropist, certified children’s etiquette consultant and a social entrepreneur. With a professional merchandising and marketing background in the fashion and entertainment industries, she has traveled internationally supporting companies through business development in retail and telecom for years. Yet, her love of the arts, youth, and community has brought her back to the work that matters to her most.
Ms. Scott's professional acting career started at age five and includes credits such as The Cosby Show, Sesame Street, numerous regional and national commercials, film, and television appearances. She made her Broadway debut in the original cast of Once on this Island, and she traveled across the country with the productions National Tour. She has been blessed to perform with Whitney Houston, Lena Horne, LaChanze, Maureen McGovern, and a host of other talented and amazing professionals. In college, at the University of Pittsburgh, while pursuing a degree in psychology, she trained and performed with Pittsburgh's Kuntu Repertory Theatre, and has performed with Staten Island's Unity Theater Workshop. Today, she continues to perform, but can more likely be found behind the scenes... writing, directing, casting, and coaching other talented young actors and musicians.
HER DRIVE
The importance of health and wellness is a huge part of what drives Ms. Scott's passion. In 2018, she sponsored a college scholarship in her name to Candice's Sickle Cell Fund; she is a member of the My Sickle Journey campaign supporting the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America; and she has been a contributing editor for published newsletters within the community. As a sickle cell warrior herself, Ms. Scott's desire to educate individuals about sickle cell disease is personal. She has partnered with the New York Blood Center and community organizations to host blood drives, health fairs, and fundraising events over the last ten years. Her annual support of the sickle cell community through donations and events has impacted the lives of many, and continues to bring much needed awareness to the disease.
Ms. Scott's passion and dedication to organizations that foster family, community, and educational support has been a commitment of hers since childhood. From organizing Girl Scout troops that entertained the elderly and tutoring through Salvation Army's Project Scholar, to coordinating concerts for homeless youth and job-readiness training for victims of domestic violence, Ms. Scott has remained committed to the needs of her community. She is an active member of her church and various community organizations; an advocate for equity in education; the re-establishment of 'the village'; and minimizing the social disparities that primarily plague marginalized Black and Latinx youth and communities. Through She's Got Class, Ms. Scott continues to promote and leverage opportunities of advancement, both socially and academically, for the youth in her community.
She's Got Class supports sickle cell disease through participation in World Sickle Cell Day and Sickle Cell Awareness Month events annually. Through donation, service, education, and advocacy, we serve with class!
